It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Madelene (McGraw) Fisher, Age 84 of Amherst, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on May 2, 2016.

Born in Joggins, NS, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Bella (Williams) McGraw.

Bertha began her career at the Pants Factory in Amherst and continued to be a beautiful seamstress, knitter and cook throughout her life. Her greatest accomplishments were as an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In her younger years, she loved to travel, attending EXPO 67 and spending many years camping with her family. As a faithful servant of Christ Church, Amherst for over 60 years, she volunteered as a member of various ladies groups, ending with St. Martha’s, as well as the Altar Guild, the Food Bank and at many church events. While she was an avid bowler and enjoyed the Monday Night Ladies League for decades, Bert loved sitting in her armchair watching television with her devoted cat Joe by her side.

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Sidney; daughters, Bonnie Crowley, Glenna (Wayne) Isaacs, Wendy (Jim) Langille, all of Amherst; and son, Kevin, Grande Prairie, AB; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Ross) Cormier and sister-in-law, Julia McGraw. Bertha was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Bella McGraw, infant son, Michael; grandson, Mackenzie Fisher; brothers, Patrick, Ernest, Camille, Edward, William; sisters, Irene, Gertrude and Mona.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home with the service of remembrance on Friday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. from Christ Church, Amherst, with Archdeacon Glenn Eason officiating. Reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place in the Christ Church Cemetery at a later date.

Condolences and sharing of memories can be sent to the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
