<div itemprop="description">Dwight Medley Jones – Amherst, NS - passed away on May 27, 2016. Dwight was well-known and respected in his community and province for his dedication to sports and service organizations. He was committed to his family and will be sadly missed by his daughters Jessica (Dylan Sarson), Kelsey; grandchildren Ethan and Evan; mother, Audrey Jones; mother-in-law Theresa Melanson; brothers Darrell (Lynn) and Raymond; sister-in-law Lynda Melanson; brothers-in-law Eric (Melinda) and Art (Shelly); nieces Christa (Scott), Kelly, Janine (Ryan) and Abigail; nephews Greg (Vanessa), Ryan, Luke and Leigh; great nieces and nephews Isaiah, Jordan, and Alicia. Dwight was predeceased by his wife Lorraine (Lorrie) Melanson-Jones (2013) and his father Medley Charles Jones (1982). Dwight worked for the Town of Amherst Recreation Department for 38 years and enjoyed the wide range of projects and events. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders (D Company) and the RCMP Auxiliary (Cumberland County Detachment). He was President of the Amherst Golf Club, Amherst Rotary Club and NS Blueberry Harvest Festival; Chairman of the Amherst Sports Awards, Nova Scotia Golf Association Junior Golf, and Highland Classic Golf Tournament; Co-Chair of the Lefty’s Open; Executive member and Vice President of the Cumberland Child Advocacy Association, Basketball NS Competitions, and Cumberland Child Adversity Foundation; Coach of the Mount A Women’s Basketball, Amherst High School Viking Boys, Amherst Minor Basketball Mini Bantam Boys & Girls, Amherst Minor Basketball Midget Boys, Basketball NS Provincial Juvenile Team (Co Coach), Basketball NS Provincial Midget Boys; Nova Scotia Golf Association Director of Junior Golf, Amherst Minor Football Coach; Coordinator of the Softball Canada 1995 Catching Flies and 1997 Slow Pitch Canada Championships. He was member of the Amherst Golf Club, Men’s Broomball League, and Kinsmen Club of Amherst. He received numerous local and provincial awards in recognition of his service; Basketball Service Awards, Sports Awards Committee, Highland Classic Golf Tournament to name a few. <br> <br>Dwight will also be missed by the Annual Golfing Trip Crew, Curling Club Friday night guys, Wednesday night Poker men, the Straw Hats’ Boys, and the Super Bowl gang to name a few. His mentorship will be missed by those who loved, admired, and were grateful and honoured to call him a friend. <br> <br>Special thanks to Dr. Bienkowski and Dr. Short, the hospital staff, and the VON nurses. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Amherst at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating.
