Dr. Gillian Lawrence would like you to know that her work here on earth is done. On May 31st, on her beloved farm, surrounded by family and four legged friends, she died of breast cancer. In true Gillian style, she was funny, stoic, astute and full of life to the end, continuing to put others before herself.

She was always giving of her time. Her accomplishments went far beyond the awards she received, which included the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, Equine Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, Paul Harris Award amongst many other recognitions. Even more significant than her incredible volunteer work were the everyday thoughtful deeds. She referred to herself as a simple country doctor, but to her patients she was so much more – she was caring and brilliant. Gillian provided a glowing example of how to live and love life. She touched the world in a positive light in so many ways and leaves a legacy of pure joy, class and love. Her infectious smile, genuine compassion, deep values and zest for life will be profoundly missed by all who loved her.

Gillian is now with her beloved husband Tony and son Mark. She leaves behind Claire, Sarah, Anne and Michael and a legacy of grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-9906)

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2 p.m. from Trinity – St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst with Rev. Nigel Weaver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, she wanted donations to be directed towards helping support causes for which she was passionate, to help her with unfinished tasks, including the Rotary Club, the Cumberland County Hospice, Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA).

Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made to the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting Campbell’s Facebook page.
