<div itemprop="description">Gloria Elizabeth (Betty) Jardine age 82 of Amherst passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by her loving family. <br /> <br />Born May 29, 1931 in Stellarton, NS, Betty was a daughter of the late Alexander and Ida (Ross) MacKay. <br /> <br />Upon moving to Amherst, Betty was employed at Reid&rsquo;s Bookstore for over 20 years. <br /> <br />Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stellarton and Eureka, and later attended the Immanuel United Church in Amherst. She was a member of mothers club, UCW, as well as volunteered making her lemon pies and many cakes for church functions, suppers and the Kidney Foundation. She volunteered with the Amherst Minor Hockey for many years and was the proud recipient of three sports awards. Betty&rsquo;s love for hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, earned her the title of &ldquo;Hockey Nanny&rdquo;. She was an avid bowler receiving many prizes during her 60 years of bowling on the Monday Night and Wednesday Afternoon Ladies Bowling Leagues. Betty was heavily involved as an organizer and participant of the Fundy Senior Games. <br /> <br />Betty cherished her family and loved having them all together for special dinners. <br /> <br />She will be truly missed by her children, Terry (Linda) MacKinnon, Cocagne, NB, Buzzy (Donna Rae) MacKinnon, Amherst and Tricia Jardine, Amherst; grandchildren, Stephanie, Vanessa, Jon, Robyn, Miranda, Jordan, and Sarah; great grandchildren, Jessica, Amber, Malik, Terrance, Jazmyne, Essance, Emilie, William, and Jackson; siblings, Fulton (Colleen), Trenton, NS, Doreen (Chet) Canning, Stellarton, NS, Tommy (Wendy), Kingston, ON, and Florence Langille, Westville, NS; special buddy, Rod Babineau; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. <br /> <br />Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur MacKinnon, second husband, Bill Jardine; daughter Colleen Dowe; great granddaughter, Tanysha; son in law, Rick Dowe; brothers, Robert &ldquo;Mac&rdquo;, and Everett. <br /> <br />Cremation has taken place. <br /> <br />Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. in Campbell&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) <br /> <br />Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, September 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from Immanuel United Church, Hickman St, Amherst with Mrs. Ruth Gamble, DLM, officiating.
