<div itemprop="description">It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Jean Louise (Dixon) Estabrooks (nee Hicks) of Amherst on December 14th, 2012. <br /> Jean was born on December 6th, 1929 to Chauncey and Doris (Purdy) Hicks. Her two sisters, Betty Cornell and Dawn Kinnie survive her. She is the mother of Bonny Jean Delaney (who predeceased her on November 25th, 2012), Charles Dean Dixon, Robin Lynn Hurley, Doris Dawn (Eugene) Smith and Susan Kim (Carole) Estabrooks. Two grandchildren, C. Eugene Smith II and Charles William Hurley, predeceased her. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Vonda Roddick, Alisa Delaney, Heather Dixon, Matthew Smith, Grant and Jeannie Hurley, and Amity and Benjamin Trenholm. She also had twelve great grandchildren. Jean&rsquo;s love and devotion to family and children led her to become a foster parent to five other children and unofficial mother to countless others. <br /> Jean graduated in 1974 from the Nova Scotia Teachers College. Education was her passion and she was an avid reader. She taught elementary school, in Onslow, Springhill Junction, River Hebert and Amherst, she first achieved a Bachelor&rsquo;s and then a Master&rsquo;s level in special education. She eventually taught special education at River Hebert District High and EB Chandler. <br /> Jean loved the outdoors and was involved for many years with the Canadian Boy Scouts and Citizen Band Radio Clubs. She loved her family and Christmas. All who loved her will forever miss her. <br /> No visitation by request. <br /> Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating at Campbell&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). <br /> Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery. <br /> Memorial donations in Jean&rsquo;s memory may be made to the CACL Bridge Workshop. <br /> Online condolences and sharing of memories may be done via: www.campbellsamherst.ca <br /> </div>
