<div itemprop="description">It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lawson &quot;Sweets&quot; Burnell Vance, age 81 of Joggins on Wednesday July 15th, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. <br />Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late Lucy (McKeigan) Vance and Daniel Allen. <br />Sweets worked for the Canadian National Railroad from 1951 to 1973 and then for General Homes as well as the Department of Highway. He was a very active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, where he worked for several years in the parish and was also the caretaker for Ragged Reef Cemetery for many years. He was a proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Sweets also loved watching his beloved Toronto Blue Jays and playing cards with his friends at the New Horizon Card Club. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends in the community. <br />Sweets will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Grace Ann (VanSnick); daughter, Brenda Lee (Brian), Lower Cove; sons, Melvin (Debbie), Oromocto, NB and Dennis (Connie), Regina, SK; grandchildren, Brian (Laura), Josh (Kait), Sarah, Jacob, and Paige; great granddaughters, Summer Louise and Sadie Pearl; sisters, Joy (Charles) Miller, Ruth, Sandi (Al) Cooper and Jean (Murray) Berry; brothers, Donnie, Garnie, Hermie (Nancy), Earl and Jim; special cousin, Jean Joel and very close friend Henry Burke; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. <br />In addition to his mother, Sweets was predeceased by son, Lawson Jr. in 1970, grandmother Sarah; sisters, Doris and Joan; brother, Hector. <br />A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with parish prayers at 8 pm all at Campbell&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 98 Church St. Amherst (667-9906). Following cremation, funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 20th, at 11 a.m. from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins with Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Sweets remains will be laid to rest with his son Lawson Jr. at the Ragged Reef Cemetery.
