Lloyd Smith
June 1, 1932 - December 1, 2013
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lloyd Hubert Smith age 81 of Amherst announce his passing on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Nappan, he was a son of the late Vincent and Georgia (Brown) Smith.
In his younger years, he worked on his father’s farm on the Smith Road and later Lloyd with his father and brother owned and operated Smith’s Esso in Fort Lawrence. As well as operating the service station he also worked as a Service Representative for David Brown Tractors until they were sold to J.I. Case in the early 1970’s.
In the mid 1970’s the former David Brown Tractor management contacted him about becoming a Service Rep for Zetor Tractors, a new line being introduced into Canada in the Southwestern Ontario area where he and his family resided for 25 years.
Upon his retirement, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of traveling. He and his wife sold the family home and traveled for the next five years across Canada and the USA before settling in Amherst. In the last three years he worked at the gas bar at the Atlantic Superstore, Amherst.
Lloyd was a member of the West Cumberland Amateur (HAM) Radio and was awarded the Provincial Volunteer Week, Certificate of Appreciation, in recognition of outstanding volunteer service benefiting the community. He was also an active member of the Cumberland Car Club.
