H. was a distinguished member of the Queen’s Council. His outstanding, enduring career of 55 years gave him the satisfaction of serving many in the community, Cumberland County, and until recent years, New Brunswick. G. H. enjoyed his law office and respected his clients who benefited from his integrity and wisdom. He cared for and valued his administrative staff throughout his career.

Along with his business partner, Peter Vriend, he founded Amherst Central Charge and the Credit Bureau of Cumberland Limited. G. H. and Peter facilitated the Canadian Tire store expansion in the Princess Street location maintaining the business in the downtown core.

Active in politics, G. He enjoyed many trips to the Rocky Mountains to visit Heather. An enthusiastic hiker, skier and cyclist, he took great pleasure in the spectacular mountain views and pristine blue skies and lakes. On trips to Toronto to visit Leslie he enjoyed the musical theatre and the diverse multicultural aspect of the city. These trips were filled with laughter and spirited conversation. Until quite recently, you could see G. H. cycling up D’Orsay Road on his way home from his office.

G. H. appreciated the medical expertise he received throughout his recent illness. Thank you to Dr. Sander Van Zanten; Dr. Darrell White; Dr. Roger McKelvey; physiotherapy and occupational therapy departments and nursing staff at both All Saints Hospital and the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre; and, speech pathologist, Lillian Majaess-Barnes, and her staff.
